From Rotten to Relaxing: This Deck Was Ready to Give Up!

Jamie Cassford • July 9, 2026

A tired, unsafe deck gets a complete rebuild with a brand-new timber frame, fresh decking boards and new fencing – turning an unusable garden into a space the homeowners can enjoy again.

TL;DR

  • 🪵 Old deck had become rotten and unsafe.
  • 🔨 Existing concrete pads were still sound and reused.
  • 🏗️ Completely new timber frame installed.
  • ✨ Finished with brand-new decking boards and fencing.
  • 🌿 The result is a safe, attractive outdoor space ready to enjoy.

From Being Unable to Use the Back Door…

Sometimes a job doesn't need complicated groundwork – it just needs doing properly.

When we arrived, the existing decking had reached the end of its life. Large sections had rotted away, leaving holes throughout the surface and making the area unsafe to walk on. Access from the back door had become difficult, and the whole space had become more of a hazard than somewhere to relax.

Fortunately, the original concrete support pads were still in good condition and correctly positioned, so there was no need to disturb the foundations. Instead, we removed everything above them and constructed a completely new timber frame before fitting brand-new decking boards throughout.

To complete the transformation, new fencing was installed, giving the garden a clean, fresh appearance that perfectly complements the new deck.

It's a great example of how reusing sound foundations, where appropriate, can save unnecessary work while still delivering a completely new structure built to last.

From being unable to use the back door to enjoying a smart new decking area, the difference speaks for itself.
