Old Slate, New Start: Giving a Wootton Roof a Second Wind

Re-roofing with reclaimed Welsh slate for charm, strength, and sustainability.

(TL;DR):

  • Full re-roof completed in Wootton using reclaimed Welsh slate
  • Reused existing slate and supplied matching reclaimed tiles
  • Brand new ridges and gutters installed
  • Reclaimed slate offers durability, aesthetic appeal, and eco-friendliness
  • Homeowner wanted security and long-term peace of mind after buying the property

When you’ve just bought a house, the last thing you want is to be worrying about what the next storm might bring. That’s exactly why our latest client in Wootton got in touch—not long after collecting the keys, they decided the roof needed a complete refresh for safety, comfort, and peace of mind.

The brief was clear: keep the traditional character of the property intact while ensuring modern reliability. Challenge accepted!

Nigel and the team got to work re-laying the original Welsh slate where possible, and carefully sourcing reclaimed slate to match. It's always a bit like a jigsaw puzzle—except you’re standing on a roof and the pieces weigh a fair bit more! But when done right, the result is seamless.

We also fitted brand new ridge tiles and upgraded the guttering to complete the job and future-proof the home. It’s a transformation you can really see in the before-and-after shots—fresh lines, solid ridges, and a surface that’ll keep the rain where it belongs (outside).

Why Reclaimed Welsh Slate?

There’s a reason we go the extra mile to reuse and source reclaimed Welsh slate. For starters, it’s incredibly durable—some of these slates can last 100+ years. Modern alternatives often don’t come close in terms of longevity or character.

Reclaimed slate also blends beautifully with older properties. It avoids that "stuck-on" look you sometimes get with newer materials. And let’s not forget the environmental benefit—reusing materials helps reduce waste and the demand for new manufacturing.

So, while it might be tempting to go fully modern, there’s something to be said for giving these old slates another run on the roof. After all, they’ve already proven themselves! 😂

A New Chapter for the Home

Our client now has a watertight roof that looks the part and performs even better. More importantly, they’ve got peace of mind—no more surprise leaks, just the steady confidence that their investment is protected from the top down.

If you're in a similar spot—new keys in hand and questions about your roof—give us a shout. We're always happy to take a look and offer some honest advice.
